Maternity
Why Maternity
Photography Matters
Honoring the Beauty of Becoming

There’s something sacred about maternity. A quiet strength. A tender anticipation. A version of you that only exists in this fleeting chapter—and yet, so many women skip over it when it comes to portraits.
Maybe you’re not feeling your best. Maybe life is too full already. Or maybe you’re just not sure how this season will look on camera.
But here’s what I’ve come to learn, both as a photographer and as a mother:
There is beauty in the in-between.
And it deserves to be remembered.
At Annie Steele Studio, maternity photography is more than a bump in front of a backdrop. It’s an editorial, artful, and emotionally grounded experience. One that celebrates not just your changing shape—but your whole becoming.
Over the years, I’ve had the honor of photographing women in so many stages of this journey:
A glowing first-time mom soaking in her last few weeks of quiet before meeting her daughter.
A mother of three, taking one hour just for her, to be seen and celebrated outside of her role as caretaker.
A couple holding hands across a studio bench—soft light falling on their matching nervous smiles.
Each session is different. Each story is personal. But all of them matter.
Because maternity portraits are not just about documenting pregnancy.
They’re about honoring what it took to get here, and who you are in this extraordinary moment.
I photograph with the busy, stylish mother in mind—the one who wants something beautiful and timeless, without adding another thing to her to-do list. My approach is modern and clean, using soft natural light and gentle direction so you feel elevated but never overdone. These portraits are meant to feel like you, at your most powerful.

So whether you’re feeling radiant or a little unsure, just know this:
You are allowed to take up space in front of the camera.
You are allowed to be seen.
And I’d be honored to capture this part of your story.
